As a child, black forest gateau was a dessert saved for special family Sunday dinners and summer celebrations, and hence was held in high esteem.
With sweet and juicy morello cherries; creamy, decadent chocolate; and, that subtle cherry Kirsch kick these truffles truly live up to their namesake and bring back cherished memories. We hope you like them too!

Are you lactose intolerant, vegan or looking to cut down on your consumption of animal based products for environmental reasons after COP 27 in 2021? Making the sacrifice of not eating milk chocolate can be a big one for a lot of people. We have been looking for years for a good, plant-based alternative. Up until this point vegan 'M_lk' chocolate was dominated by rice-based milk chocolate substitutes which didn't pass our taste tests or ethical standards. However that has changed! Barry Callebaut recently created a new alternative milk-like chocolate using a chufa-based 'milk'. Chufa (cyperus esculentus) is a common, easy to grow plant found widely across the world. It is also referred to as tiger nut or earth almond.
We'd be really interested to hear what you think of these truffles once you have tasted them- can you tell the difference between the chocolate ganache inside them and one made with milk chocolate and cream?
Of course, there's sooooo much more to these yummy black forest gateau truffles than just the vegan 'milk-like' filling (that's just the 'cherry on top', no pun intended!). Encase in a rich dark chocolate shell you will find a delicious chunk of Cointreau soaked morello cherry, surrounded by a creamy ganache made from the new, special vegan chocolate, an oat-based cream substitute and a cherry Kirsch puree. The clear, Natureflex bags in which your truffles arrive can be responsibly disposed of in household waste, where, over time, it will degrade without harm to the environment.
